Punjab Boards New Marks Improvement Policy 2026

Matric and Inter marks improvement updates

The Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen (PBCC) has approved a student friendly amendment to the policy regarding marks improvement for Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSSC) examinations, bringing significant relief to candidates across the province.

Punjab Boards New Marks Improvement Policy 2026

Under the revised regulations, if a registered candidate is absent from a paper during Part-I, Part-II, or composite improvement exams, the board will no longer penalize them by assigning a ‘zero’ or declaring them ‘fail.’ Instead, the marks previously obtained by the candidate in that specific subject will be automatically carried forward to compile the final result.

Key Features of the Policy:

  • Automatic transfer of marks: Previous marks for any missed subject will serve as a ‘safety net,’ ensuring that an unforeseen absence does not invalidate the candidate’s existing record.
  • Retention of status: The final result status for candidates absent from an improvement exam paper will remain “Marks Improved” (preserving their best overall score), and their transcripts will remain valid for university admissions.
  • Student-friendly initiative: Board officials stated that the amendment aims to eliminate academic risks arising from unavoidable emergencies, travel delays, or illness on exam day, while also streamlining the result compilation process across all boards.

This new policy applies immediately to all nine educational boards in Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and D.G. Khan.
