Arizona State University

One of the renowned universities of the United States, Arizona State University (ASU), will establish its first campus ever in Pakistan. It is known as the National Institute of Technology (NIT) and it will be located in Lahore. Its classes will kick off in the Fall of 2025.

It is an extremely huge news since this is the first time a U.S university will have a campus of its own here. This will work as it will mean that students in Pakistan will be able to study using an American style education but also one that fits into the cultural set up in Pakistan and the requirements that the local students have.

Project Leader & Main Areas of Study

The NIT will commence by having two parent study areas i.e. School of Management Sciences and School of Data Sciences and Information Technology. They are very trending disciplines today and will also guide the student in acquiring good jobs all over the world.

It is an exciting initiative that has been spearheaded by two intelligent people and Shahzeb Awan who is also a lawyer as he was trained in London and Jahanzeb Burana whose expertise was in the field of finance as he studied at the University of Harvard. At the U.S. campus of ASU, they formally shook hands on this partnership back in April 2025.

The officials of ASU have stated that NIT will be dedicated to ensuring that students learn in the best manner possible. This is aimed at equipping the graduates with skills and knowledge that allow them to perform well in the international labour market.

An interesting aspect of this arrangement is that students will be in a position to obtain two degrees, one being an ASU degree and other being a NIT degree!

Even some of their courses can be undertaken in Pakistan and others are undertaken at the parts of ASU campuses within other countries such as Washington D.C and California. And, learners will have options to international learning by getting opportunities to travel to more than 30 partner schools through ASU.

“On July 24, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted ASU representatives and he termed this collaboration as a game-changer in the education sector in Pakistan. He continued, saying that NIT would become an international school which would enable our young people to do well in the international markets. He also emphasized the fact that the government is interested in giving people modern education that will allow them to take up jobs.”
